I MAKE MUSIC.

I grew up studying classical violin and viola.

Now, I play music for dancing and/or pondering.

I’m the fiddler in Baymele, a klezmer and Eastern European folk trio. We recently released a new album with Tsvey Brider entitled Kosmopolitn.

In my compositions, I explore peripheral soundscapes through play. What sounds do we typically stifle or ignore? How do they make us feel and how can we feel them more deeply?

COMPOSITION

for two first violinists (2015-16)

A duo exploring the myriad competitive and collaborative relationships of the first violinist archetype.

The first movement transforms a modal motif. The second movement plays with retuned resonances and perpetual motion. The third movement communicates musical meaning through motion and is played on progressive air violin.

Unscored I & II (2015 & 2016)

A series of score-instruments that reveal bits of notation as they are transformed through folding. A sonification of the act of page turning and of the sounds heard at an origami convention.

Unscored I has been performed by Mantra Percussion and the Vocal Constructivists in Dublin, Ireland. Unscored II has been performed by the Toneburst Laptop Ensemble.

coulrophobia (2015)

A gamified absurdist abstraction of a mosh pit, for Kazoo Army and Contrabass Rubber Band. 100 needle-tipped kazoo players pop balloons of their assigned color, following balloons as they drift out into the audience, all while playing circus music to the thrum of an amplified rubber band.

Middle Sea (2015)

A pandiatonic piano solo that encodes the directions to a treasure hidden in a forest in Northwestern Oregon. Learn more.
